Leighton Meester arrives at the Screening Of Screen Gems' "The Roommate"
in West Hollywood, California in Michael Kors.
Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2011 Collection
Model: Olga Sherer
Hunh. You know what? She looks good. Even stranger, she looks better than the model. In fact, we don't particularly like this dress at all but she's really working the hell out of it and making it work for her. She does tend to go for the edgier looks, which is always a shortcut to red carpet disaster if you don't know how to pull it off. Now, it's kind of laughable to refer to a Michael Kors dress as "edgy," since you'd be hard-pressed to find a designer more interested in simple classic looks. But for Kors, this is edgy. And for the red carpet, this is about as edgy as it gets if you want to maintain an ingenue status. She actually found a dress that works for her (seemingly only for her) but still manages to elevate her in a way most of her other "edgy" choices haven't. In fact, this choice of dress is so perfectly suited to play to her strengths while at the same time avoiding her pitfalls that we have to wonder if she's employed a new stylist. As we said, a really tough dress to pull off, but for whatever reasons, this goth Wonder Woman gown is exactly right for her.
And it was a smart choice not to wear jewelry since the dress obviously doesn't need it. The makeup is kind of odd because her face looks so different and we can't put our finger on why. The hair's a bit too ironed and starched, but even that's an improvement since it at least looks done. No, we can nitpick all we want, the girl is clearly IN.
