PR: Christopher

Pretty boys, boring clothes.

Well, we got double the cute on the boy front, for which we're entirely grateful.

Model: Rose

Unfortunately, we're still getting department store clothes from Christopher.

Even more unfortunate, they're not even good department store clothes this time. Christopher, who has a tendency towards blandness, really outdid himself this time, creating as generic an outfit as one could imagine.

From a design and execution perspective, the only real issue we have is with the pants, which just sort of hang off her. We don't mind that they're so wide in the leg, but she's swimming in them up around the hips and crotch.

Plus: ass zipper. When are the judges going to yell "ENOUGH!" on that little Season 8 trend?

We're not going to rag too much on the judges, though. We were very happy to see that the three main judges dropped the buffoonery of early episodes this season and got down to doing what they do best: thoughtful critiques with a touch of bitchiness. Too often this season it's been the opposite: bitchy critiques with a touch of thinking behind them.

With Christopher, the FINALLY said what needed to be said: this isn't fashion. These are clothes. And that's all he's been doing all season long.

And this print, while pretty in a bland way, isn't the stuff of design competitions any more than his clothing designs were.

We will reiterate what we've said so many times before: there is nothing at all wrong with being a designer who wants to make pretty, wearable, simple clothes. Plenty of employment opportunities out there for that kind of work if you're good enough.

He's rarely made anything AWFUL. Most of his output has been competent. But at this stage in the game, the merely competent designers should be going home and the remaining designers should all be the more exciting and interesting ones. We have no idea how Christopher has managed to stay this long, but it could have to do with the fact that none of the judges can remember his previous work. They may deny it, but those things are considered as the competition progresses. It's why Valerie was let go over Andy. Because she had failed repeatedly to impress the judges. We can understand the thinking, but Christopher would have been our pick for the auf, because he failed repeatedly to make anything the judges could even remember.

Cute guy; seems like a nice guy; probably could do quite well for himself designing salable garments, but he's not Project Runway material. After this past episode's judging session, the writing is on the wall for him.
